Tustin, California is one of the original towns in Orange County. It was established in 1868 by a carriage maker named Columbus Tustin. Tustin has over 17,000 trees and is known as the city if Trees. Today, Tustin is a middle to upper middle class town with many housing tracts built in the 1960s and 1970s. In addition, many newer homes have been built in recent years in new community in south Tustin called Tustin Ranch.
The population is about 71,000, is expected to hit 103,000 within 10 years. The Median age of residents is 32. Those under age 21 make up about 30 percent of tie population in Tustin, CA.
The city of Tustin comprises of well maintained, three and four bedroom homes of one and two stories. On many streets, the shrubs and trees have had time to mature and fill out. The Centennial Park subdivision has some of the tallest pine trees in the county. Most of the home tracts have buried Utility lines. Walls around the tracts were built to dampen noise and channel traffic away from residential streets. Many neighborhoods are pleasant and attractive because the homes show a lot of care. Some lawns approach putting-green quality.
The town is served by Tustin Unified School District. Which also takes in part of Irvine. In state comparisons almost all schools are scoring above the 50th percentile, some in the 90th percentile. District also serves unincorporated areas so it's hard to break out neighborhood scores. The Tustin school district has one magnet school, Tustin Memorial Academy. It offers a program that stresses fundamentals and a fast program for gifted kids. Tustin High School has a chamber orchestra of 35 players. In 2005 the group was invited to play at Carnegie Hall in New York City, a great honor. The community raised $66,000 to fund the trip and buy the students better violins.
Tustin has a Boys and Girls Club, and a YMCA that runs programs for kids after school. Usual activities and sports for kids and adults. Tustin also has a Library, Museum, Seniors center, Golf course, and Driving range. It also has about a dozen parks including a sports park with softball and soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, playground.

On the other end of the age spectrum, Tustin Ranch is a newer comunity within the city limits of Tusin. Tustin Ranch is governed in part by a homeowner's association which maintains the external landscaping around city streets and parks. Tustin Ranch was developed by the Irvine Company and was previously a citrus ranch. Tustin Ranch comprises of 7,000 residential housing units, from move-up estates to apartments. At the heart of Tustin Ranch is the Tustin Ranch Golf Course, known as one of the finest golf courses in Orange Counties. Tustin Ranch also boasts of a one of Orange Counties most popular shopping complexes called The Tustin Market Place.
